Eligibility Criteria

To qualify for the fellowship, candidates must meet the following requirements at the time of application:

  • Be involved in clinical or basic research related to digestive diseases, as evidenced by their research history
  • Have completed their PhD within the past five years or be currently in or have recently completed, training in gastroenterology, hepatology or surgery (with allowances for up to two additional years per child for primary caregivers, up to a maximum of four years)
  • Not hold a permanent academic position
  • Have substantial research experience, as demonstrated by their track record
  • Be proficient in English
  • Reside in Europe, a Mediterranean-bordering country or a nation represented by a UEG National Member Society

In 2025, at least one of the fellowships will be awarded to the highest-ranked candidate from an Inclusiveness Target Country (as defined by COST Actions). The final decision rests with the Research Committee.
